Are pregnancy vitamins necessary?

During pregnancy, proper nutrition is the most important factor for the health of mom and her fetus. Nutrient deficiency can restrict fetal growth and can raise neural tube defects and lot of physical and mental deformities in fetus.
There have been some researches on pregnancy vitamin supplements and found that all the evidences were indicating that generally pregnancy vitamins have no role in boosting the health of pregnant woman and her unborn baby. They further reported that you only need an iron supplement if you are iron-deficient (which your doctor would diagnose). The rest you can easily get from food.
By adding leafy green vegetables in your food you can get folate (the natural form of folic acid) and Iron too. To boost your iron intake meat, seafood, leafy green vegetables, beans, nuts, poultry, raisins and dried fruit can be added in your food. All the dairy products contain plenty of calcium, and calcium is also found in oranges, bell peppers, broccoli etc. You can increase your Vitamin D intake by eating oily fish, eggs and red meat. And for Iodine you may have fish, milk, cheese, yoghurt in your food and not to forget the iodized salt.
However much of the evidence gathered comes from developing countries but in India benefits of  prenatal multivitamin may not overlooked because a lot of women don’t actually get all the nutrients they need from food.
So we suggest you it is always better to consult your doctor during pregnancy, he or she will guide you best prenatal vitamin as per your health reports.
